I found a cicada on our loading dock and thought it would be something interesting to scan. It does not disappoint!

You can see the dorso-longitudinal muscles (running from just behind the head to the beginning of the thorax) that contract for wing depression and the dorso-ventral muscles (vertical along the sides of the thorax) that contract for wing elevation.  You can also see that the intestine is almost full indicated by the squiggly line down its lower back (abdomen).  Turn on your sound while watching to hear their song.  #UArk #computedtomography #UArkMICRO #Entomology #FulbrightCollege
